Protocols

The Cyprus Sport Organisation signs protocols of athletic collaboration and it has athletic interchanges with countries with which there is a signed agreement for Economic, Scientific and Cultural collaboration between the two Governments, that are included and provision for interchange at sports. These agreements are signed by the Foreign office and are notified in the Organisation via the Ministry of Education and Culture. After the Agreement is notified in the CSO, the Organisation evaluates the country and if it judges that it should sign the protocol the contact with this country begins, aiming at the signature of the protocol.

The criteria that are basically set and the extent of the protocol depend on following:

A. the level of the sports of the country and this involves the entire spectrum and the directions

B. the distance of the country and the transport (way of passage and cost)

C. the interest of the country to collaborate with us.

Basically a general agreement is signed which has political strength in it in which it is reported that the two Organisations sign collaboration for, between others:

Growth of relations and friendship between the two populations

Collaboration in the International bodies, Congresses, conferences etc

They determine the economic terms of the protocol which they basically are: accommodation, feeding, movement, medical incidents and perhaps tip (hospitable aspect) and

Ticket to and from the capital of the hospitable country (hospitable aspect) .

a protocol is also signed in which sports are specifically determined, the number of people , the dates and duration of exchanges, the place of conduct of these exchanges as well as anything that is considered to be necessary.

The constitution of a protocol takes place after direct discussions of the two Organisations after the deposit of specific proposals from each side. Our own side basically has three directions for the proposals that propose to be included in the protocol:

•  Games

•  Preparation/training camping

•  Further education.

The criteria that are in effect in order for a sport to be included in a protocol are among other things:

A. The organisations of that sport that will participate at the year that is to say his fighting activity as e.g. if it takes part in bilateral games, AMKE, Mediterranean, Pan European, states, World, Olympic.

B. How much developed is the sport in the country with which we are going to sign.

C. The necessity of growth of the sport in Cyprus, if it is a new sport and needs help from abroad in order to get ahead since the conditions to be developed correctly do not exist in Cyprus .

The Organisation in the past and up to today had achieved and signed protocols of athletic collaboration with the following countries:

Greece, Romania, Cuba, Syria, Jordan, Ukraine, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Russia , Israel, Poland, China and Belarus.

Basic objectives of the Organisation via the protocols is to offer the opportunity to the athletes of various Federations to be jointly prepared with foreigner athletes , to compete with them in enacted games in Cyprus and abroad for the rise of the level of Cypriot sports. Also the opportunity is given to the Federations to create and exploit their contacts with the Federations of the countries with which the Organisation signs the protocol to their interest. Still through the acquaintances, friendships and relations that are created by such contacts, the Organisation and the athletic institutions generally can influence in the decision-making in the international athletic space, as well as Cypriot athletic dignitaries and factors in vitally athletic posts in European and Worldwide athletic bodies to be elected.
