The Cyprus Sport Organisation founded the National Anti-doping Committee following a decision made by its Board of Administration on the 27th December 1994.
Apart from the National Anti-doping Committee two more committees have been founded: the Selection Committee and the Scientific Sampling Committee, which both act on the basis of the terms of an order dictated to them by the Cyprus Sport Organisation.
The two Committees aim at the Medical Committee of the International Olympic Committee controlling the athletes in case of their taking prohibited drugs, because the doping tactics does not keep in line with the moral values of sports and the Medical Committee's principles.
The National Anti-doping Committee performs the following activities:
A). A control on 200 – 250 athletes the samplings of whom are taken and sent abroad for further analysis
B). It organises seminars in relation to:
the harmonisation of regulations about doping
the application procedure of anti-doping
the training of new cadres on sampling
application procedures of anti-doping and the law about it
Doctors, physiotherapists, gym masters and other interested agents attend the above seminars.
C). It publishes informative bulletins and other material like:
Doping manual. In this manual reference is made to all the permitted and prohibited drugs in sports as the International Olympic Committee determines them.
Posters on the Sampling Control Procedure within the framework of the
Doping-Control and other material.
